Baltic Sea

The amber Expo at the initiative of artisans and merchants of amber and with the sponsorship of the Government of the State, takes place in the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, every summer (between late July and early August) the amber Expo. Around 500 craftsmen and artists organized its production of jewelry and sculptures to the public, in addition to celebrating the annual competition of the amber they offer. The 12th edition of the amber Expo was held from July 25 to August 10 in the year 2009 and the next is also at the end of July at its headquarters, San Cristobal de Las Casas. Baltic amber Baltic amber is also known with the denominative Meerschaum. The origin of this vegetable gem is the fossil resin from conifers which, in the majority of cases, more than forty million years.

One of the factors that most distinguishes the Baltic amber from other regions of the world is its succinic acid content. In the case of Baltic amber we find ourselves with a content between 5% and 8% of this compound, opposite a percentage much lower than in the amber of the rest of the world.
